The power of positive programming & being brave

Inspiration comes in all sizes. Big, small, wide, short, old, tall, fat, young, thin, medium build. It can be distant, detached, a piece of art, close, emotional, a book, a song, a passing comment, an idea, an experience, it can also be expected, and even better unexpected. My daughter went into hospital last week for an operation on both of her eyes. I know, it sounds dramatic. She is only 4 1/2. Her name is Daisy. She is quite a character and a little bit feisty, like her mummy. We didn’t wa… Continue

Environment - A convenient truth

This was written for printers - but it is relevant for exhibitors, producers and exhibition contractors. It is a crazy, beautiful world we live in. It is full of contradictions. On the one hand governments and the EU want us to be entrepreneurial and dynamic and on the other hand we are expected to be socially responsible and environmentally friendly. But I, like most modern people, am a believer in positive aspects of environmental best practice. The biggest problem I have with the whole thin… Continue

De-mystifying marketing

There are plenty of excellent books about marketing. They are great expansive works that derive from minds of great academics and practitioners and provide value for students and theorizers. There are degrees you can take, post graduates diplomas, majors and minors, the list goes on and on. Now the principle of this is good and I do not think that the

Why is it the majority of exhibitors just don't get it?

This year I managed to get to the Exhibiting Show. As a visitor, and what a great show it is. The vision, integrity and passion for exhibitions is here for all to see. But most exhibitors, in my book, just don't get it. I am now in an industry that is not vastly disimilar to that of the exhibition industry in that some of the interpersonal and communication skills need improving. It is as simple as that. But surely, a company that makes money out of the exhibition industry and actually invests t… Continue

Hi Marcus
Thought I would stop by and see how you're doing. Is everything going well? Visited Lorraine the other weekend, which was great. Although she made me meet her at an exhibtiion when I arrived on the Friday....so while on holiday I was still at work!! Once you're in events you can never get out...

Hope the presentation in Budapest went really well. I'd love to go there though I'd like to see a lot more than the inside of a hotel room and a meeting room which I'm guessing were the views of your visit.
It's fantastic news about Doz- as you know, all the guys at Aztec are so great; really capable and committed and talented which is what Doz wanted from his colleagues.
Send my love to Pippa and Daisy. x

Hi Marcus,
I'm saying hello to all my Event Crowd contacts today. I'm going to read all of the blogs that you've posted- it's very cool to see you writing so well particularly considering it's the next learning curve I'm facing.
How's Doz (it is Doz?) going in his search for industry work?
It was wonderful to see Pippa- she's looking so well- we had a delicious lunch and then I packed her off with half the contents of my wardrobe!
We missed you at Nostalgia, you absolutely HAVE to come to our Poker Night on April 16th.
Madeleine.

How do you get exhibitors to follow up their leads?

Having worked for a large exhibition organiser, I know that many exhibitors simply do not follow up their leads. How many of you out there have had exhibitors cancel their presence because they did not get a good enough return on their investment and once you get to the base of it, they simply did not follow up the leads they generated? I have even had a company cancel their presence the following year because they lost their leads between the show and the office. "We didn't get any new busines… Continue

Life's Ultimate Test

Life isn’t always easy. Some say life is a struggle, a challenge. We often hear the saying “up a creek without a paddle.” Life can be a test, you’re either prepared or unprepared. Who we become as adults is greatly influenced by the way we are raised as children. The abilities and skills to survive and excel in this test of life are forever ingrained in us by our parents and educators. In this fast-paced ever evolving world, the prepared are able to rise to the challenges of life and fortune of… Continue

Check it out and please let Alltop know if there are other sites they should add (info@alltop.com). Hello... I recently contacted Alltop to pitch a "meetings and events" topic. An Interview with the New Executive Director for the Green Meeting Industry Council

"Sustainability is our vision. Corporate responsibility is our obligation. Green Meetings are our strategy." That’s how my interview with Tamara Kennedy-Hill, the new Executive Director of the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC) ended. That, and: “Profit is good—but it’s also about the environment and your impact on the community. Have you left the community you were in better off or worse off?” That is the way to define the movement to build sustainable events. It is about more than the pl… Continue
