EMS-08: Were You There?

Hey all – Was anyone else in Chicago last week for EMS-08? I’ve been back a few days now, and am (almost) fully recovered from 3 jam-packed days of conference sessions, exhibit floor time and networking receptions. I don’t think I’ve been that tightly scheduled since summer camp, but it was a really great time. Some of my favorite parts:

Getting to meet my EventCrowd contacts in person (hi Christopher!!) – I think the whole point of sites like these is to move past leaving notes on each others pages and actually work with the people you connect with. I was able to meet up with Christopher at our booth, and learned all about how ShowTec can help me out with some of the events I run.

Conference tracks – I didn’t make it to all of the conference sessions I wanted, but I did make it to the EventView recap. It was great to hear how senior management from some of the world’s biggest companies see events as the most valuable part of the marketing mix. I think we can all agree that while most of the mass technology we use in marketing makes it easy to broadcast a message to a big audience, it also makes it harder to actually reach them through all the clutter. Events give us that direct connection to our audience – and the C-level folks setting budgets realize this. Good news!

Was anyone else at EMS? What did you think? The Green Event Summit is coming up in June, is anyone planning on going to that too? (http://greeneventsummit.com/)

Hi Danica! It was great to get to meet in person. I agree that it is a nice thing to get to meet our web contacts in person.

Hi Danica, I was there and it is a great event. It is a very targeted event focused toward Agencies and Big Brand Marketers that manage a variety event programs. After attending twice, I feel that attending the Awards Ceremony this year assisted me in seeing the the full view of EMS. Great content, great speakers, great contacts! I look forward to building valued relationships and utlizing the new knowledged gained through this event. Perhaps, I'll get to meet you next year!! Candance

How do you get exhibitors to follow up their leads?

Having worked for a large exhibition organiser, I know that many exhibitors simply do not follow up their leads. How many of you out there have had exhibitors cancel their presence because they did not get a good enough return on their investment and once you get to the base of it, they simply did not follow up the leads they generated? I have even had a company cancel their presence the following year because they lost their leads between the show and the office. "We didn't get any new busines… Continue

The abilities and skills to survive and excel in this test of life are forever ingrained in us by our parents and educators. In this fast-paced ever evolving world, the prepared are able to rise to the challenges of life and fortune of… Continue

An Interview with the New Executive Director for the Green Meeting Industry Council

"Sustainability is our vision. Corporate responsibility is our obligation. Green Meetings are our strategy." That’s how my interview with Tamara Kennedy-Hill, the new Executive Director of the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC) ended. That, and: “Profit is good—but it’s also about the environment and your impact on the community. Have you left the community you were in better off or worse off?” That is the way to define the movement to build sustainable events. It is about more than the pl… Continue
