Having worked for a large exhibition organiser, I know that many exhibitors simply do not follow up their leads. How many of you out there have had exhibitors cancel their presence because they did not get a good enough return on their investment and once you get to the base of it, they simply did not follow up the leads they generated?
I have even had a company cancel their presence the following year because they lost their leads between the show and the office. "We didn't get any new busines…

Life isn’t always easy. Some say life is a struggle, a challenge. We often hear the saying “up a creek without a paddle.” Life can be a test, you’re either prepared or unprepared. Who we become as adults is greatly influenced by the way we are raised as children. The abilities and skills to survive and excel in this test of life are forever ingrained in us by our parents and educators. In this fast-paced ever evolving world, the prepared are able to rise to the challenges of life and fortune of…

"Sustainability is our vision. Corporate responsibility is our obligation. Green Meetings are our strategy."
That’s how my interview with Tamara Kennedy-Hill, the new Executive Director of the Green
Meeting Industry Council (GMIC) ended. That, and:
“Profit is good—but it’s also about the environment and your impact on the community. Have you left the community you were in better off or worse off?”
That is the way to define the movement to build sustainable events. It is about more than the pl…

Hey all – Was anyone else in Chicago last week for EMS-08? I’ve been back a few days now, and am (almost) fully recovered from 3 jam-packed days of conference sessions, exhibit floor time and networking receptions. I don’t think I’ve been that tightly scheduled since summer camp, but it was a really great time. Some of my favorite parts:
Getting to meet my EventCrowd contacts in person (hi Christopher!!) – I think the whole point of sites like these is to move past leaving notes on each…

It was over three decades ago I began producing events. That was while I was in school and the audience was 2,000 for a first event of its kind in the the second largest auditorium in its time in NYC. Shortly following I began producing more events and even one that attracted between 18,000 - 24,000 over a single weekend. Within that same year I developed and produced an event that today after 28 years is recognized worldwide and the biggest on the east coast of the US. It was a great start into…

Inspiration comes in all sizes. Big, small, wide, short, old, tall, fat, young, thin, medium build. It can be distant, detached, a piece of art, close, emotional, a book, a song, a passing comment, an idea, an experience, it can also be expected, and even better unexpected.
My daughter went into hospital last week for an operation on both of her eyes. I know, it sounds dramatic. She is only 4 1/2. Her name is Daisy. She is quite a character and a little bit feisty, like her mummy.

I just got back from the ASI Show at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas. This was written for printers - but it is relevant for exhibitors, producers and exhibition contractors.
It is a crazy, beautiful world we live in. It is full of contradictions. On the one hand governments and the EU want us to be entrepreneurial and dynamic and on the other hand we are expected to be socially responsible and environmentally friendly.
But I, like most modern people, am a believer in positive aspects of environmental best practice. The biggest problem I have with the whole thin…

I am getting ready for and really excited about EMS2008. I am looking forward to what I can learn and who I may meet, although I am becoming apprehensive about networking on-site. Being an Account Executive does have it's drawbacks, especially when it is written on your name badge. It's like saying to the world "I have the plague! It was incredible to have been invited to speak to exhibit (stand) builders and show orgainzers in S. Africa, and learn that THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM exists, there, as in the USA. I was in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago hoping to get a hiatus from the cold. No such luck it snowed twice while I was there. Delta cancelled 1000 flights including 2 of mine. I got home 24 hours late after an exhausting 7 days on the road. Getting ready to go to Vegas as the preferred carrier for a show. I am in hopes it is a little warmer there but who knows. Over the past six months Sledge has seen a marked increase in the number of briefs asking us to create brand experiences aimed at engaging internal audiences.
So, is it that brand experience marketing is becoming more accepted by marketers, and using it internally offers a convenient way of dipping their toe in the water with a ‘safe’ audience? Or, is it the initiative of the forward thinking internal communications team, who appreciate that brand experiences are a more effective way to fully i…

A total lack of ‘experience’!
Did any readers I wonder, go to the ‘Field marketing and Brand Experience awards’ on the 10th of October?
Our agency went along. We had pretty low expectations of how the event may turn out. We are admittedly rather cynical about these type of events – at worst they can be self serving and patronising in their supposed ability to be able to critically comment on a particular scene. This ceremony was a shockingly bad example of the latter description, made all the…

What makes a meeting truly stand out from others? It's not necessarily how much money was spent but how many positively memorable experiences the attendee recalls.
Many conferences involve a theme, reinforced through a logo, theme, events, and speakers to create an overall "feel" and value throughout the convention. Why not further reinforce your meeting content and mood by enveloping attendees in planned sequences of memorable moments that involve sensory combinations of smells, tastes…
